The oil mill in Mannheim was founded in 1887 as a merger of 9 small Southern German oil mills and is still known under the name VDO (Association of German oil factories). It is one of the world's largest oil mills – 1.1 to 1.2 million tons of oilseeds are processed annually in order to produce vegetable oils and rape meal.
