Bunge Deutschland GmbH – Update on the impact of Mannheim Plant fire

Further to the incident on April 26th, 2010 that resulted in substantial material damage to the preparation building of the Bunge Mannheim crushing plant and instantaneous production stoppage; the management of Bunge Deutschland GmbH would like to announce that:

  • BUNGE will maintain the Mannheim oilseeds crushing site and will rebuild the preparation building;
  • The rebuilding process and the resulting interruption of production will take 15 to 18 months;
  • BUNGE is considering the possibility of increasing the capacity at Mannheim plant.

During the rebuilding process, the seed crushing necessary to produce vegetable oil for the food industry and the meal for the feed industry will be interrupted. Bunge will undertake all necessary measures to reduce business interruption and resume supplying to our national and international customers as soon as possible.

 "We are doing our utmost to get the Mannheim plant operational and to minimize disruption to our customers. We will keep them informed on a regular basis." said Bernd Koelln, Managing Director.

Once again, we would like to thank our employees and the Mannheim Fire Department for their concerted efforts and commitment and also extend our gratitude to the Mannheim Police Department and to the local authorities of Mannheim for their continued support on site.
